Command to check java home for mac: What you need to know

/usr/libexec/java_home is not a directory but an executable. It outputs the currently configured JAVA_HOME and doesn't actually change it. That's what the Java Preferences app is for, which in my case seems broken and doesn't actually change the JVM correctly. It does list the 1.7 JVM but I can toggle/untoggle & drag and drop all I want there without actually changing the output of /usr/libexec/java_home.

command to check java home for mac

Even after installing 1.7.0 u6 from Oracle on Lion and setting it as the default in the preferences, it still returned the apple 1.6 java home. The only fix that actually works for me is setting JAVA_HOME manually:

By default, VS Code attempts to locate your local Java installation by looking for a JAVA_HOME or JDK_HOME environment variable on your computer. If VS Code cannot find your Java installation, or if you want it to use a different installation, change the salesforcedx-vscode-apex.java.home setting.

Prerequisite, Java must be available:Java is open source and can be downloaded from SQuirreL will always run with the current LTS (Long Term Support) release of Java. The minimum Java version required usually is the previous LTS release.Installation of the SQuirreL SQL Client on Windows and Linux/Unix:The SQuirreL SQL Client can be installed by the IzPack installer. Download the file squirrel-sql--standard.jarand execute it using the following command:java -jar squirrel-sql--standard.jar when you properly installed Java.or\bin\java -jar squirrel-sql--standard.jar when you just unpacked the zip or tar.gz version of Java.Note: On Linux/Unix replace backslashes (\) by slashes (/).Make sure that you have write privileges to the directorythat you want to install into.Note that some browsers may attempt to open thisfile rather than download it. In this case, right-click onthe download link and click your browser's equivalent of the"Save as..." menu item.Installation of the SQuirreL SQL Client on MacOS:On MacOS the preferable way to install the SQuirrel SQL Client is the MacOS X installer squirrel-sql--MACOSX-install.jar.Starting the SQuirreL SQL Client:On Windows, execute the file squirrel-sql.bat to run theapplication. On Linux/Unix and MacOS, the file is squirrel-sql.sh.Trouble shooting:When SQuirreL SQL doesn't start:On Windows try to add the line&nbsp set JAVA_HOME=to the top of squirrel-sql.batOn Linux/Unix or MacOS try to add the line&nbsp export JAVA_HOME=after the line&nbsp #! /bin/shof squirrel-sql.shScaling problems on high resolution screens:Set the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) parameter-Dsun.java2d.uiScale=Example: -Dsun.java2d.uiScale=2.5This can be done by editing squirrel-sql.bat on Windows and squirrel-sql.sh on Linux/Unix or MacOSor by setting the SQUIRREL_SQL_OPTS variable before executing the start script.

The readlink command follows a symbolic link. I have used ` around which java. This is called command substitution and it replaces the command with its output. Sed is then used to replace /bin/javac by nothing and thus removing it altogether.

In my example, the location of the executable file is /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64. It could be different for you. Copy the correct path you got from the above command in your system. You know, you can copy paste in the Ubuntu terminal.

Running ant -diagnostics is a good way to check that Ant is installed. It is also a first step towardsself-diagnosis of any problem. Any configuration problem reported to the user mailing list will probably result inssomeone asking you to run the command and show the results, so save time by using it yourself.

If you cannot get Ant installed or working, the Ant user mailing list is the best place to start with anyproblem. Please do your homework first, make sure that it is not a CLASSPATHproblem, and run a diagnostics check to see what Ant thinks of its own state. Why the userlist, and not the developer list? Because there are more users than developers, so more people who can help you.

Since Mac OS X 10.5, Apple has provided a tool called java_home. Its function is to dynamically find the Java version a user specifies in Java Preferences [2]. It returns the home path of the current JDK in use. I run this program with help flag:

The VS Code plugin uses by default the JAVA_HOME environment variable (viafind-java-home) to locate thejava executable. Metals only works with Java 8 so this executable cannot pointto another version such as Java 11. 2ff7e9595c
